BGC Greater Halifax after-school programs are back for the 2026–2027 school year, and registration is open now. If you’re a parent in Halifax or Dartmouth looking for an affordable, supervised place for your child to land when the school day ends, here’s everything you need to know before you register.

What Are BGC Greater Halifax After-School Programs?

BGC Greater Halifax Clubs (BGCGH) offers after-school programs for children across four locations in HRM. Running throughout the school year, our programs give kids a safe, welcoming place to unwind, try new things, and spend time with friends. Days are structured but flexible, with a mix of recreation, physical activity, cooking, arts and crafts, reading, and leadership programming, all led by trained staff.

BGC Greater Halifax serves 1,000+ members annually across four club sites in Halifax and Dartmouth. After-school is one of our core programs, and space fills quickly each year.

Where Are the Programs Located?

After-school programming runs at four BGC club sites:

  • Dartmouth North – 60 Farrell Street
  • East Dartmouth – 50 Caledonia Road
  • Sackville – 45 Connolly Road
  • Spryfield – 11 Aldergrove Drive

Programs run Monday to Friday on school days, from school dismissal until 6:00 PM.

Which Schools Does Each Site Serve?

Each club site serves children from specific catchment schools. If you’re unsure whether your child’s school is included, contact us before registering.

  • Dartmouth North (Primary–Grade 6): Harbour View Elementary, John MacNeil Elementary, Shannon Park*
  • East Dartmouth (Pre-Primary–Grade 6): Ian Forsyth Elementary, Bois Joli*, Shannon Park*
  • Sackville (Primary–Grade 6): Millwood Elementary, Sackville Heights Elementary, Sackville Heights Junior High (Grade 6 only)
  • Spryfield (Pre-Primary–Grade 5): Central Spryfield Elementary, Chebucto*, John W. MacLeod*, E. Sutherland* Elementary schools, and Cunard Junior High* (Grade 5 and 6 only)

Schools marked with an asterisk are not transported by the Club. Parents/guardians are responsible for arranging transportation to the applicable club site.

What Does the Program Cost?

After-school programming is $230 per child, per month. If you have questions about payment or financial supports, contact registration@bgcgh.ca.

Who Is Eligible?

Eligibility varies slightly by site:

  • Dartmouth North and Sackville: Members must be 5 years of age by December 31 of the current term and enrolled in Grade Primary.
  • East Dartmouth and Spryfield: Members must be 4 years of age by December 31 of the current term and enrolled in Pre-Primary.

What Does a Typical Day Look Like?

Kids arrive from school and settle in for the afternoon. From there, the day includes a mix of structured activities and free time: sports and active games, arts and crafts, cooking, reading, leadership programming, and plenty of space for kids to choose their own games and projects. Activities rotate throughout the week so there’s always something new, while the daily rhythm stays consistent and predictable.

Who Are the Staff?

BGC after-school staff are trained in child development, behaviour management, non-violent crisis intervention, conflict resolution, HIGH FIVE, and first aid and CPR. All staff complete criminal and vulnerable sector checks before working with children.

Our programs run at a 1:10 leader-to-participant ratio. If your child has medical, behavioural, or sensory support needs, we encourage you to contact us before registering so we can discuss what’s possible.

How Do I Register?

Registration is done online through the BGC Greater Halifax registration portal. A laptop or desktop computer is required. The portal is not compatible with mobile devices or tablets.
